Save The Bay is a member-supported, volunteer-powered nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and improving Narragansett Bay and all the waters that flow into it, from all over Rhode Island and much of Massachusetts. Our vision is a fully swimmable, fishable, healthy Narragansett Bay, accessible to all. Since 1970, we have been working to fulfill our mission and vision through advocacy, education, and habitat restoration activities that improve water quality, marine and aquatic ecosystems, and coastal habitat and train the next generation of Bay stewards.

The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the world’s largest volunteer effort for our ocean. People all over the world remove trash from the shores and document what they find, and Save The Bay is proud to be the Rhode Island State Coordinator for the effort, organizing dozens of cleanups throughout the state. In 2022, volunteers in the Ocean State collected 22,655 pounds of trash from Rhode Island shorelines. (See the full 2022 Rhode Island report!)

Thank you to our supporting restaurants:

The Ocean Conservancy, the global organizer of the event, publishes the collected data in an annual report on marine debris that is used by policymakers around the world. (In 2020, the Ocean Conservancy also published a report on pandemic-related pollution.)
